was called home to eternal life on Monday, 15 June 2026.
Sr M. Engelharda was born on 27 June 1941 in Biberbach, Lower Austria. Together with her younger brother, she grew up in the religiously shaped environment of her family home as well as the parish of Biberbach, a parish of Seitenstetten Abbey. Her father, Franz, was a master carpenter and, together with his wife Rosa, also ran a small farm. At the age of eighteen, Sr M. Engelharda entered our Congregation, which she had come to know through sisters in Seitenstetten. On 17 September 1965, she made her perpetual profession.
Sr M. Engelharda trained as a nurse and obtained her diploma in 1970. She greatly enjoyed her nursing work at Hartmann Hospital; patients appreciated her cheerful, sociable, and compassionate manner. As priests and members of religious orders were often cared for on her ward, she had the opportunity for many contacts, especially with the St Gabriel Mission House.
After a stroke, Sr M. Engelharda was no longer able to work in the hospital; caring for the refectory became her new task. Here, too, she used opportunities to bring joy to her fellow sisters through small gestures of kindness. When illness-related limitations no longer allowed her to carry out this service, she found work in the sewing room. In her last months, she was lovingly cared for in the nursing unit.
Sr M. Engelharda always took part in the life of the community with joy; despite great effort, she continued to come to Mass and prayer even in recent years. Throughout her life, she felt very closely connected to her Mostviertel homeland and especially to her relatives. She gladly sang to the glory of God and loved the beauty of nature, especially her flowers. May God now receive her into eternal glory.
Funeral:
Vienna-Ober St. Veit Cemetery: Friday, 26 June, 11:00 AM, followed by Holy Mass at the nearby San Damiano nursing home, Josef Kraft-Weg 9.
