In Christ, hope shines upon us,
that we may rise to blessedness.
God, the Creator and Lord of our lives, called our beloved
SR. M. BARTHOLOMÄA
Maria Feurhuber

home to eternal rest on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
Sr. M. Bartholomäa was born on July 7, 1932, in Steinbach an der Steyr, the third of four children. Her parents, Engelbert and Juliana, ran a farm, and her father also served as mayor of the municipality for several years. As a small child, Sr. M. Bartholomäa struggled with severe illness and therefore could not start school until she was eight years old. She worked on her parents’ farm until she entered our congregation in September 1964.
Already during her postulancy and novitiate, which Sr. M. Bartholomäa began in May 1965, a particular seriousness and meticulousness were evident in her observance of rules and customs, both in religious and community life. On May 10, 1970, she made her final vows.
After a brief period of work at Hartmannspital Hospital, Sr. M. Bartholomäa was assigned to care for sick fellow sisters. In July 1977, she came to Hellmonsödt, Upper Austria, to manage the kitchen and household at the convent, which was connected to the order’s own kindergarten. She performed this task with love and dedication until September 2009. The children greatly appreciated not only her cooking but also the modest and good-natured manner of “Sister Maria.” She also found great joy in the flower and vegetable garden, which she tended with expertise and zeal. Whenever possible, she supported the fellow sisters who, in addition to their work as kindergarten teachers, performed sacristan duties and other tasks in the parish church.
After the dissolution of the Hellmonsödt branch, Sr. M. Bartholomäa came to Seitenstetten, where she was also entrusted with the care of the community’s household. Since this house was also given a different purpose after only two years, she returned to the Motherhouse in March 2011. For several years, she managed the refectory and the convent garden here, until she found loving care in the nursing ward. On the morning of Sunday, the day of Resurrection, the Lord brought her life, filled with zeal and faithfulness, to completion.
