SR. M. MARGARETE
(Maria Rechberger)

to her eternal home on Laetare Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 9:45 PM.

Sr. M. Margarete was born on May 2, 1943, in Feldkirchen, Upper Austria. born. Together with her brother, she grew up in the religiously influenced atmosphere on her parents’ farm. In September 1963, she entered our Mother House as a candidate; after her religious formation, she took her perpetual vows on May 10, 1969.

In the early years, Sr. Margarete worked in nursing care at the Hartmann Hospital (now Franziskus Hospital Margareten) connected to the Mother House. In 1979, she was called to Mayerling, where she was initially entrusted with the responsibility for the kitchen and in 1990 as Superior for the entire establishment. Later, students from Heiligenkreuz University lived in the house.

In her old age, Sr. Margarete fondly remembered her time in Mayerling. She loved working in nature, especially tending to flowers, the encounters with the local and home residents, and the sisters in the neighboring Carmel. She took particular joy in the services and celebrations organized by the priest students and the proximity to Heiligenkreuz Abbey. Praying for priests and for priestly vocations was always a great concern of hers.

Sr. Margarete spent her last years in the nursing unit of the Mother House and found strength in her faith and in knowing that she was thereby participating in the Lord’s Way of the Cross.
