MY LORD
AND
MY GOD.
John 20:28 (from the Gospel of the day)
God, the Lord of our lives, has called our dear fellow sister
SR. M. PETRINA
Maria Puffer
to her eternal home on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27, 2025.
Sr. M. Petrina was born on February 25, 1940, in Julbach. She grew up with seven, mostly older siblings in a religiously influenced family and in a parish with many vocations at the time. As a young woman, she worked for some time in Switzerland and later at the Vienna Hospital Hietzing (formerly Lainz), where two of her older sisters were already working as “Hartmann sisters” in nursing care. Through them, as well as through other sisters from the Julbach parish, her decision to join our congregation matured. On January 4, 1961, she began her formation for religious life as a candidate. On September 17, 1966, she made her profession for life.
For many years, Sr. M. Petrina worked with joy and dedication in nursing care at the Hartmann Hospital – now Franziskus Hospital Margareten. For some time, she also worked in elderly care in Wiener Neustadt and in Seitenstetten. She obtained her diploma in 1970. For Sr. M. Petrina, caring for sick or elderly people meant not only the corresponding work but also personal attention and, above all, prayer for those entrusted to her care. She also found strength in prayer when she herself later suffered from various illnesses. On Easter Sunday, her admission to the hospital became necessary again. Although she had been able to overcome several life-threatening situations before, this time her journey led – on Divine Mercy Sunday at 11 PM – to her final homecoming.
Grateful for her life and work, we remain connected to Sr. M. Petrina and ask for your prayers.
Funeral service:
Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Ober St. Veit Cemetery, followed by a memorial mass.
